parade queen

Last weekend I went to the Brookside St. Paddy's Day Parade. Allie was in it. She rode in a convertable with our friend Deb, who is trying to get a dog park opened in her neighborhood.

Midway through the parade, I was standing at 63rd and Brookside when I saw them go by. Allie was sitting up on the car, smiling and waving to the crowd. And I just thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. And I thought, out of all of these people, and all the other people on earth, she's chosen me to be her husband.

Good feeling.

Been having that feeling a lot lately. I don't know if it's a newlywed thing, but Allie looks more beautiful to me now than she ever has.

Yeah, I was wondering if you really got it or not. You're a fortunate man, Joe.

i find your feelings, joe, quite sweet. dunno if it's the newlywed fumes or not - i'd say you're genuinely in love.

i am lucky, actually, to hear the same kinds of things (like you've said for her) from my man most frequently.

i'm not here to say "clishé!" - but it always strikes me that it's the man who is considered luckiest when marrying -

it's an odd cultural thing.

are "you all" that knuckle-dragging, pompous, underfinanciallyendowed*, etc. that we ladies with brains and beauty and great smiles are stooping down to scoop you up as partners?

: )

(*random "male"-type things, all i could come up with. . not creative today)

maybe it's just that we would find it way gross to entertain the comment towards a woman, "you were really lucky to get him?"

somehow, the connotation is worse, as if she's really wrecked and useless and unworthy (since traditionally, it was the woman who was taken out of father's home or lack of financial security to be enfolded into a man's household).

[blah blah blah. sorry.]
